Fran Drescher Tells Boca Raton: Cancer Schmancer!
Fran Drescher will be the keynote speaker at the 7th Annual Go Pink Luncheon in Boca Raton on 10/28/10, and her message is: Cancer Schmancer!
Drescher is a uterine cancer survivor who endured two years of symptoms and eight different doctors before she was finally diagnosed. She wrote the bestselling Cancer Schmancer in 2002 and also founded the Cancer Schmancer Movement and the Cancer Schmancer Foundation (see her website.)
Her mission is to help women evolve from patients to medical consumers, and to refocus the nation’s attention on prevention and early detection instead of seeking a cure for all forms of cancer. As one Cancer Schmancer shirt broadcasts: Stage 1 is the cure!
“We need to take control of our bodies, become greater partners with our physicians and galvanize as one to let our legislators know that the collective female vote is louder and more powerful than that of the richest corporate lobbyists.” – Fran Drescher, www.CancerSchmancer.org
Benefiting the Boca Raton Regional Hospital Foundation’s Go Pink Challenge, the 7th Annual Go Pink Luncheon will be held at the Boca Raton Resort and Club on 10/28/10 from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm, and tickets are $125. The event includes an exciting Mercedes Benz of Delray Pink Daisy Pick Raffle. To learn more or buy tickets, click here: Join Fran Drescher at the Annual Go Pink Luncheon.

Hi Dr Deb,
I remember reading Fran Drescher’s “Cancer Schmancer” book a few years ago and feeling most inspired by her bravery and her subsequent mission to inform women and help women in the fight against cancer.
It was unbelievable to read how her doctors had totally misread her symptoms and how this can happen even when you are fortunate enough to be going to “good” doctors. I can only imagine how much more likely are such errors to occur among those who are much less fortunate.
The key take-away for me was that if you are not feeling yourself and your regular doctor is not able to help you feel better, you must reach out to other doctors to ensure that something important is not being missed.
Best,
Dorlee
Thanks so much for your insightful comment, Dorlee! I agree that Drescher’s message is eye-opening and empowering, and I admire her decision to use her celebrity to bring such an important message to other women.
I agree. Doctors are fallible. Getting a second or third opinion can minimize the possibility of being diagnosed or treated incorrectly.
Thank you, Stilmer — I completely agree!
Wow, I really loved this post, never thought about it like that. Thanks for the insight.
Thanks Deon!

Thanks for your inspirational comment, Jolyn!
Once I initially commented I clicked the -Notify me when new feedback are added- checkbox and now every time a remark is added I get 4 emails with the same comment. Is there any means you possibly can remove me from that service? Thanks!
I’ll immediately grab your rss as I can not find your e-mail subscription link or newsletter service. Do you’ve any? Please let me know in order that I could subscribe. Thanks.

I have been browsing on-line more than three hours nowadays, but I never discovered any fascinating article like yours. It is pretty price enough for me. Personally, if all web owners and bloggers made excellent content material as you probably did, the internet might be a lot more useful than ever before.
