How is coaching different from other professions?

  • A therapist diagnoses and treats psychological disorders.
  • A coach works with psychologically healthy people.

  • A consultant offers a recommendation for how to close a gap.
  • A coach helps generate options, and the client chooses how to proceed.

  • A trainer shares information without necessarily following up.
  • A coach offers daily support, encouragement, and focus.

  • A professor holds a position of power over a student.
  • A coach holds equal power with the client in the coaching relationship.

  • A mentor teaches you the written and unwritten rules.
  • A coach helps you write your own rules.

  • A sports coach teaches you how to win, while the other loses.
  • A life coach helps you find win-win solutions.

How often would we meet?

I typically meet with clients for four 60-minute weekly sessions each month by phone (the initial session is a 90-minute Discovery Session) but there is plenty of room to play with the structure of the weekly calls depending on your unique needs. For example, some people might prefer two 30-minute sessions each week, and others might seek a quick 10-12 minute check-in at the beginning of every weekday.

For how long would we meet weekly?

Some people choose to work with me for three months, just to achieve a set of short-term goals, and others work with me over a period of years to continually benefit from the extra motivation, support, direction, and growth. I ask my clients to commit to their own growth for a minimum commitment of 90 days so they can fully experience the coaching process, after which we can work together on a month-to-month basis.

Is coaching effective when done over the phone?

Not only have skilled coaches been successfully helping clients over the phone for years, but coaching by phone also offers significant advantages:

  • No travel time or costs to meet at an office.

  • No need to put on a “mask” when talking with your coach.

  • Additional comfort of speaking from your own home or office.

What is the fee to hire you as my coach?

Different coaches offer different pricing. For example, some coaches charge by the session, with an extra fee for the initial session and any additional sessions (e.g., one coach charges $150 for an “emergency session” if people need to speak with her within 24 hours.) I don’t nickel and dime my clients. I believe my clients should be welcome to lean on the strength of our coaching relationship any time, not just during sessions.

So I will be your coach, with no additional fees for the initial session, for extra power coaching sessions, or for unlimited email support, for $125 per week or $500 per month.* As your coach, I will be fully committed to helping you achieve your goals.

* The $125 weekly fee will remain available through the end of 2010.
